The 8 lines represent midpoints of each side of the octagon. This will help you with the octagon shape. You should have a something like a "+" and an "X" with all midpoints lined up. Repeat this process again rotating 45 degrees clockwise on the previous lines. Then draw another 30" line horizontally intersecting at the midpoints.
